Letter from Diane Canova

(Full monthly briefing)

April 13, 2009

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the ACTTION Update – a monthly newsletter informing the members, endorsers and others interested in furthering the mission of the national Call for ACTTION (Access to Cessation Treatment of Tobacco In Our Nation). We hope these monthly updates will provide you and your teams with policy, research and news updates, as well as new ideas and approaches to the challenges we face in providing support for tobacco users looking to quit.

This edition of ACTTION Update will focus on up-to-date information regarding the recent federal tax increase on tobacco products and the Healthy People 2020, and how they affect our overall mission to provide greater access to and coverage for comprehensive tobacco cessation treatments.

In the future, this newsletter will offer an opportunity for everyone to share best practices and mobilize support for efforts taking place in the various sectors. Please feel free to send along information about upcoming efforts or results from recent activities that you would like to share with the group.

Please consider taking a moment to share your comments regarding our first issue. We hope you will also consider passing this along to your members or constituents, encouraging them to sign up on www.acttiontoquit.com to receive this newsletter and to become an endorser of the Call for ACTTION.

Regards,
Diane Canova
