FDA: Non-therapeutic E-cigarettes are Tobacco Products

April 26, 2011 - The FDA will oversee electronic cigarettes marketed for non-therapeutic use as tobacco products. E-cigarette companies will be subject to rules that apply to the makers of regular cigarettes, such as providing a list of product ingredients to the government. Read more.

April 25, 2011 - Federal health officials of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predict that every state may ban smoking in public places by the year 2020.  Read more.

Quitting Tobacco Lowers Risk for Kidney Cancer

April 21, 2011 - A review of 845 patients with kidney cancer who had already undergone surgery showed that smokers were at a 60 percent higher risk of suffering from advanced forms of the cancer.  Read more.

April 20, 2011 - An updated Cochrane Review reveals the mitigated effect of incentives for smoking cessation. Cahill and Perera reached the conclusion that while incentives work for short term in some conditions, the effects generally dissipate over time.  Read more.

Thirdhand Smoke Harmful to Unborn Babies’ Lungs

April 19, 2011 - A study by researchers at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute found that prenatal exposure to toxic components of tobacco smoke (thirdhand smoke) can have as serious or an even more negative impact on infants’ lung development as postnatal or childhood exposure to smoke.  Read more.

Pharmacists Expanding Access to Cessation Resources

April 15, 2011 - Pharmacists should play a significant role in tobacco cessation efforts across the nation.
